When I am on holiday or new to an area I like to find a church that we as a family can go to. One key element for us having young children is 'do they have a toilet'. We also want to know what activities they have for children and so contact details of the minister or other official can be helpful. For other people the question may be about do they have access for disabled people, large print hymn books or a loop system and from experience it can be jolly hard to come by this information without a lot of hard work. What is good about the search process is that you can type in the church name or a village name. If you choose the latter option, the site will list all the churches it has listed for that village irrespective of denomination. The web site to which we provide a link to can only be as good as the information supplied to it by the various churches and church organisations but it is a great starting point in your search. There is information on disability access, toilets, loop systems, projection, large print books, contact numbers, web sites, email address and more. Of course not every church has given this information and some don't have phones, email or web sites but many do. Before you click on the link, I want to tell you that sometimes the search may not be quite so straight forward. An example of this was when I typed in the village of Earl Sterndale (which is near Buxton). Nothing was listed. However, I knew that there was a Methodist Church in Earl Sterndale and I was puzzled. The reason for this turned out to be that there was no address listed and so it could not find the church by address. When I typed Earl Sterndale into the church name box, two churches came up, the Anglican and Methodist Church. The Methodist Church was called Earl Sterndale Methodist Church. The moral of the story is that sometimes you have to change the paremeters of your search. Other than this, it is a very helpful site. Go to WWW.DERBYCHURCH.NET/FIND and you'll find upto 800 churches/organisations accross Derbyshire.
